Our new iPad has arrived!  I can't wait to start using it with the students this week!  Thanks again to all those who supported the project on DonorsChoose.org.

First Day!

We had a great first day in Room 2011!  We did several community building activities, such as "Find Someone Who..." where we looked for a classmate that went to a concert, wants to dye their hair, wishes they could drive, etc.  It was a fun activity and a great springboard for some humorous conversations (as you might imagine!).  We also started making lists of the top 10 reasons it's great to be back in school and worked on designing a t-shirt that will be paired with a paragraph (or more) about our summer.  It was a productive start to the year!

I hope you had a chance to check out your child's planner and look at the info in the Sands folder.  I know it is a lot to go through in one night (especially if you have more than one student), but please try to complete all the paperwork and return it as soon as possible.  The students will also continue to use their Sands folder until the spiral folders arrive (they are on backorder and we hope to have them next week), so please see that they bring it back to school every day.

Included in the folder was a flyer about parent night.  Please try to join us on August 26th to meet your child's teachers and learn more about what to expect this school year.  Check out the flyer for more info.

Thanks for all those who sent in supplies and the classroom fee!  If you were not able to send it all in today (which is fine!), please try to send it in by September 10th.  If you need to check the list again, click on the "supply list" tab above.

Tomorrow will be our first day of "academic sessions" or math, science and social studies classes.  Hopefully your child is excited to meet the rest of his/her teachers!

Back to School Picnic

Here is info from the SMPO about the upcoming back to school picnic.  Hope to see everyone there!

Back to School Picnic
AUGUST 18
4-7pm

Sands will be having a back to school picnic on Sunday, August 18th from 4-7pm.  It will take place at the Spirit of 76’ shelter at Lunken Airport.  This is a great time to come meet other parents and let the kids reconnect after the summer or meet their new classmates.  Drinks and light dessert will be provided, but bring your family’s favorite meal along with reusable plates and silverware!  We’ll have fun games for the kids and grownups! (HINT: You might even get wet!)

Staples "Reward A Classroom" program

Not sure exactly how this program works, but it sounds similar to programs at Target or Kroger where you link up your card to help Sands earn "free" money.  Only difference with the Staples program, our classroom earns the "free" money!  ;)  Click on the flyer below for more info.

If you shop at Staples and already have a Staples rewards card, link up.  Spread the word and have your friends and families link up also!
